The Polar LNG reports of Oct. 23 and 24 added one more Russia-related thread to a year that already had several touching President Trump’s family and circle. This catalog lists each Trump family Russia link reported in 2026, with dates, the outlets that reported it, and every response on record, so readers can see what is documented and what is only alleged.
Where it stands: As of Oct. 26, none of these matters had produced a public finding of wrongdoing by any U.S. authority, and no outlet in our review reports that any Trump relative owns part of Polar LNG or is among the Lukoil bidders. Each party named below disputes the most serious readings of its role.
The responses are central, so they come early. Trump said of the Kremlev-funded parties, “It’s totally allowed.” Through a spokesman, Trump Jr. said his friendship with investor Gentry Beach has cooled. Polar LNG calls its former CEO, the source of the Novatek claims, a “disgruntled former employee.” Witkoff’s spokeswoman said he has “no conflict of interest and no financial stake in this matter,” and Kushner called the Lukoil coverage “misleading.”

Umar Kremlev and Trump Jr.’s wedding
Umar Kremlev heads the International Boxing Association and, in the AP’s description, has close ties to Putin. In September, ProPublica reported that he had “footed the bill for hundreds of thousands of dollars of wedding expenses” when Trump Jr. married Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas in May, according to the Associated Press. The AP said that included renting one of the two private islands used for the three-day event.
The couple’s response, posted by Bettina Trump, called Kremlev a “dear friend” who “very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding,” and described the parties as “an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend.” Kremlev’s press office told ProPublica that the two men “have a friendly relationship” and that “Mr. Kremlev has never discussed political matters with any of his American friends and acquaintances.” ABC News noted it had not independently confirmed ProPublica’s details.
The president said in a White House statement that he did not know Kremlev and that the payment for the “afterparty” was “Not a big deal!” according to ABC News. Asked whether he would open a probe, Attorney General Todd Blanche replied: “When you say am I investigating — Am I investigating what?” Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, sent letters to Trump Jr. and the White House asking them to preserve related records.
On Oct. 6, Kremlev told reporters in Istanbul, “Yes, he did,” when asked about repayment, adding: “He did repay the money I spent on the present.” No document showing the amount or timing has been published. Trump separately said, “It’s totally allowed,” and that he understood his son had repaid it. The AP noted that Putin had recently awarded Kremlev the Order of Friendship.
Gentry Beach and Novatek
The Alaska gas thread begins with Beach, a Texas investor and college friend of Trump Jr. Reuters relayed a February NYT report that Beach “signed an agreement with Russia’s energy giant Novatek last autumn to develop natural gas in Alaska amid Western sanctions against Russia.” Novatek confirmed talks on its liquefaction technology but “did not confirm that it was working with Beach.”
Months earlier, the Wall Street Journal had reported strains between the two friends. The Journal reported, as relayed by Raw Story, that an attorney for Trump Jr. wrote to Beach in August 2025 demanding he quit describing himself as Trump Jr.’s business partner. Beach denied ever seeing that letter. In March 2026, Beach told the Anchorage Daily News he has “social relationships with the Trump family, but does not do business with them.” He estimated his own Polar Eagle plan “could ultimately cost $20 billion.”
Beach’s role in Polar LNG, a separate company, shifted in the telling. When Polar LNG launched, its then-CEO Joel Riddle told Reuters that Beach was “one investor in the project.” Riddle now says the opposite: Business Standard reported he “discovered that Beach had not invested in the company and was neither a shareholder nor a director.” Novatek, for its part, told the NYT he was absent from its shareholding negotiations with Polar LNG. His wider business history is in our Beach profile.
Polar LNG and the envoys
The newest thread does not involve the president’s relatives directly. The NYT reported that Putin talked over the Alaska gas idea with Steve Witkoff and with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, while reporting that there was no sign they knew of Polar LNG’s Novatek ties, as Raw Story summarized. The financing claim itself is Riddle’s, disputed by Polar LNG, Novatek and Tech Wave. As Business Standard put it, “No US authority has publicly established that the alleged financing constituted a sanctions violation.” The full allegations are in our news report.

The Lukoil sale and the envoys’ business circles
Lukoil’s troubles in Washington date to Oct. 22, 2025, when the Treasury Department designated it along with Rosneft. In early October 2026, the NYT reported that the sale of Lukoil’s foreign assets had become part of U.S.-Russia talks; Putin raised it with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin on Sept. 5, three people told the paper, per Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Türkiye Today’s summary of the NYT, the leading bid includes Todd Boehly, who “donated $1 million to Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. in December 2025 and another $1 million through Eldridge Industries to Trump’s inauguration.” It also includes the Al-Khayyat brothers, who “partnered with Kushner and Ivanka Trump on financing a multibillion-dollar luxury resort project in Albania,” and a fund controlled by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Another fund Tahnoon controls bought heavily into World Liberty Financial, the crypto company Witkoff helped found with the Trumps. Witkoff has since sold his World Liberty stake, a person close to him said.
The NYT found “no indication that Witkoff or Kushner themselves stand to profit.” Former federal prosecutor Hui Chen called the ties “an alarming and very concerning set of entanglements.” Kushner, per IBTimes UK, called the reports “misleading.” Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s envoy, defended him online. Our earlier post on the Lukoil deal explains what Treasury would have to approve.
What ties the threads together, and what does not
The common feature is proximity: Russian or Russia-linked interests doing business near people close to the president during peace talks. The differences matter as much. The Kremlev case is the only one in which money paid for a Trump relative’s personal event, and it is described as repaid. In the Lukoil thread, the links run through bidders’ past dealings with the family’s crypto firm and Kushner’s businesses, not through the sale itself. The Beach deal involves a friend from whom Trump Jr. has distanced himself. The Lukoil and Polar LNG threads concern envoys, with the NYT reporting no indication of personal profit in one and no sign of awareness of Russian ties in the other. For how today’s reporting compares with the 2016-19 investigation, see our Mueller comparison.
The paper said Lukoil “valued its international assets at about $20 billion earlier this year,” and any sale still needs Treasury approval. As of Oct. 26, no approval had been announced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Trump family Russia links reported in 2026?
Three threads dominate coverage: Russian businessman Umar Kremlev paying for celebrations after Donald Trump Jr.’s May wedding, Trump Jr.’s college friend Gentry Beach signing a gas deal with Novatek, and a proposed Lukoil asset sale whose leading bidders have business ties to people around envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Did Donald Trump Jr. repay Umar Kremlev?
Kremlev told a press conference in Istanbul in October that Trump Jr. had repaid him, and President Trump said he understood his son had paid the money back. No public document showing the amount or date of repayment had been reported as of October 26.
Does the Trump family have a stake in Polar LNG?
No report reviewed says so. Gentry Beach, a friend of Trump Jr., pursued his own Novatek-linked Alaska plan, and Joel Riddle, who ran Polar LNG until September, has said Beach was never an investor there. The Russian company has said its shareholding talks with Polar LNG did not involve him.
Will Witkoff or Kushner profit from the Lukoil sale?
The New York Times reported no indication that either man stands to profit personally. Witkoff’s spokeswoman said he has no financial stake, and Kushner called the reports misleading. Critics point to business ties between the bidders and the envoys’ circles.
