What Is the Levi’s Trump Tariff Refund Settlement Worth?

The Levi's Trump tariff refund is worth about $79-80 million to Levi Strauss. It is a refund of import duties to the company, not a payout to shoppers. IEEPA tariffs were emergency-based import taxes imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. According to Levi Strauss Investors in the Levi Strauss third-quarter results, the company recorded the refund in the third quarter of fiscal 2026.

Why did Levi's receive a refund?

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on Feb. 20, 2026 in Learning Resources v. Trump that IEEPA does not authorize broad presidential tariffs.

The power to regulate importation did not include sweeping tariffs. The Court of International Trade then ordered refunds to all importers of record that paid the unlawful duties. Only lawsuit plaintiffs did not receive refunds.

What is the refund worth on paper?

The refund added about $79 million in cost of goods sold plus $5 million in interest income. About $20 million in tax expense partly offset that gain, according to the TradingKey summary of the filing.

The benefit lifted reported quarterly results. Levi's also raised full-year adjusted earnings-per-share guidance to $1.54-$1.56.

Where will Levi's spend the money?

Levi's redeployed $25 million of the benefit during the third quarter. It plans to reinvest about three-quarters of the total benefit, according to the Supply Chain Dive report.

Planned uses include marketing, supply-chain upgrades and promotions. Those categories support sales and inventory flow rather than direct refunds.

Will consumers get a check?

No. The payment is a company importer refund, not a consumer settlement fund. Shoppers who paid higher shelf prices receive no direct check.

  • Levi Strauss as importer of record: receives the duty refund
  • Individual shopper: receives no payment and files no claim
  • Consumer tariff class actions: separate lawsuits seeking refunds face separate legal hurdles
